Already MovingPsalm 30:11

You Can Say The Name Out Loud Now

This message is for nothing having changed about the situation itself, while I can now say the name out loud at my own table without my voice going, and nobody has ever remarked on it

He said the name at the table on Friday, in the middle of an ordinary sentence, and nothing happened to his voice.

There were eleven people there and a great deal of noise and nobody looked up, because there was nothing to look up at. He was telling a story about a car and the name came into it the way a name does, and he said it, and he carried on.

It was in the kitchen afterwards, carrying plates, that it caught him.

For a long time he could not do that. Three years, roughly, and it was not a decision and it was not avoidance in any deliberate sense: the name would arrive in a sentence and something would happen in his throat, and he had become quite skilled at rerouting a sentence in the half second before it got there. Everybody in that family knew and nobody had ever said a word.

Nobody said a word on Friday either, which is exactly the shape of these things: there is no ceremony for a thing that simply stops happening.

And the situation is exactly where it was. He wants that said plainly at the start, because he has been handled by well meaning people for three years and he can feel the shape of a hopeful paragraph coming from a long way off.

And an uncle said last month, with all his love: fast for it again, my son.

He said of course. And what he thought, in the kitchen with the plates, was a question he has not asked before: what else has been going on that I have not counted?

If you have rerouted a sentence in half a second, come and sit under the vine here a while.

You Can Say The Name Out Loud Now

Nothing here is going to reinterpret the situation

Let us settle that before another word, because otherwise the rest of this will be read at arm's length and it should be.

The situation is where it was. This page does not suggest it has quietly moved and does not imply that a more faithful person would see progress in it. That is asking a man to argue with his own life and it is not happening here.

You are not being handled, and your account of these three years has been accurate throughout. That is not a courtesy offered to a man carrying plates. It is written that the Lord looketh on the heart (1 Samuel 16:7), and the Holy Spirit is the one who has been at that table for every rerouted sentence, all of them, and He never once thought less of a man for a throat that would not do it.

There is another place to look, and Friday happened there.

What the psalm reports and does not explain

There is a line in a psalm about a change that has already occurred, and the tense is the thing.

Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness.Psalm 30:11

Read the verbs. Hast turned. Hast put off. Hast girded.

All of them are past and all of them are His, and the man writing is reporting rather than requesting. He is not asking for this. He is describing something that has been done to him, and he does not explain how it happened or when, and there is no account in that psalm of the day it changed.

That is a man noticing afterwards, in a kitchen, with plates, and then writing it down.

You are describing the same category of thing, and it belongs in the record. I am not saying it to inflate a Friday: it is what the psalm does and what tense it does it in (Psalm 30:11), and it is His Spirit, not this page, who does the actual turning, which is why there is never a day anybody can point to.

And it is not a sign about the situation

Here is the plain sentence, because this is exactly where a page like this normally goes wrong.

Friday is not a signal. It does not mean the situation is turning, it is not the beginning of anything, and it tells you nothing at all about the months ahead.

You are carrying no forecast, and nobody here knows what comes next. Scripture says it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power (Acts 1:7), and it is His Spirit who makes that a relief rather than a disappointment, because a small true thing stops being yours the moment somebody turns it into evidence.

And what you went without over those years bought nothing, in either direction. It did not fail and it did not quietly work on the inside instead. There was no transaction anywhere in it.

Now the sentence this site says everywhere. Some people must not go without food at all, and being one of them takes nothing away from you. Diabetes, pregnancy, medication, any hard relationship with eating, being underweight, unwell, elderly or simply unsure: speak to your doctor and let their answer be the answer. You are not one step further from God because of what your body needs. Scripture says the Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works (Psalm 145:9), and the Holy Spirit has never once come in a smaller measure to anybody on account of a body.

And if this week has more in it than a page can carry, if you are frightened for yourself, put this down and telephone somebody real: your doctor, a counselor, a crisis line, and the emergency services if you or anybody near you is in danger tonight. That is not a road around God. That is help He put in the world on purpose.

The breakthrough

Here is the turn, and it asks you to conclude nothing about the situation.

You are describing something that has been done to you rather than something you achieved. He is not waiting on you to notice and He is not withholding anything until you are more grateful, because the psalm puts every verb in the past and every one of them in His hands (Psalm 30:11). You have permission today to count Friday and to leave the situation exactly where it is. The word puts it in your hands, casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you (1 Peter 5:7), and it is His Spirit who has been at a table through three years of half second reroutes that nobody in that family ever mentioned.

The situation is where it was. Both sentences stand together and neither one cancels the other.

Declare this over yourself

Say these out loud, at the table or in the car, in whatever language you pray in when nobody is listening. The standing to speak this way is yours in Christ and it is not issued on the strength of what has changed outside you. Scripture is the ground under it, the Holy Spirit is what makes it living rather than merely observant, and what God does about the situation and when is His, however He answers.

  1. Situation that has not shifted, you are real and you are not the only record. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing, and Psalm 30:11 puts every verb in the past and every one of them in His hands and none in mine. In the name of Jesus I count Friday today and I leave the situation exactly where it is.
  2. Fear that noticing a small thing is disloyal to what I am still asking for, you are not God's word about me and you are not standing in this kitchen any longer. It is not for me to know the times or the seasons which the Father has put in His own power, and His Spirit is the one making that a relief rather than a disappointment. I am carrying no forecast, and I am loyal to nothing less, and I am free.
  3. Father, You have been at that table through three years of half second reroutes and nobody ever mentioned one. Your written word lets a man report a turning without explaining when it happened (Psalm 30:11), and Your Spirit is the one who did the turning. The list is written and nobody will read it, and I am going to go and do something ordinary now.
